Welcome to the official website of the
Old English Game Bantam Club of America.
About the Club
Today the Club’s average membership is around five hundred, and more Old English Game Bantams are shown in the United States than any other breed in the country. The popularity of our thirty four ABA recognized varieties, and about a dozen new varieties that members are working on means the old english game bantams now have the most varieties in a breed!
History of the Old English Game Bantam Club of America
The club was forming sometime in the 1950’s, in 1958 the Southeastern Old English Game Bantam Club had the first OEGB National Meet. This Club consisted of three states, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. These three states rotated the Old English Game Bantam meet each year, Atlanta Georgia, Greenville South Carolina and Hickory North Carolina. The show ended up staying in Hickory, North Carolina, now called the Jamboree.
The Clubs first officers; President J.W. Thurman- NC, Vice-president G.L. Kuykendall-GA, Secretary G.E. Stahlkuppe-GA.. This was the official beginning of the Club in 1963. The club officers were listed for the first time in the 1964 American Bantam Association Yearbook. The Club had 163-191 members, 1963-1965. The past officers of our club are listed in the OEGBCA Yearbook.
There are many names to be mentioned, a lot of people have contributed their time, energy and money to our great club, one that is worthy to mention is Mr. Fred Jeffrey.
Mr. Jeffrey was the club’s secretary for ten years, started the points system, and gave the club the book that he and Bill Richardson wrote, “OEGB as Bred and Shown in the United States”.
